Transfers to West High School
The Iowa City Community School District will discontinue parent requests for
transfers from City High School to West High School and assignment of open
enrollment students from other school districts to West High beginning immediately. West High School enrollment continues to increase
limiting space for transfers and open enrollment students. Exceptions would be if
the student was rescinding a transfer to City and returning to the West High attendance area. Transfer and open enrollment requests will be
approved to City High School.
Below are the school transfer guidelines for 2005-06:
1) K-2 - transfers will be approved up to a class size of 19 for buildings with capacity.
2) 3-6 - transfers will be approved up to a class size of 25 for buildings with capacity.
3) Preference will be given to student transfer requests under the following parameters:
a) Siblings of students assigned outside their attendance area will be
given first preferential consideration for a transfer (student is assigned to a special education program in another building and sibling wishes to request a transfer to the same building). If the transfer request
would result in exceeding the class size parameters, the request will be reviewed
on an individual basis with the building principal.
b) Siblings of students previously approved for transfer will be given second preferential consideration for a transfer. In cases where more than one student at a grade level (s) has a sibling in a school, a lottery will be held to determine order of preference within this category. Open enrollment siblings will also be included in this category and will be given
the same preference as resident students.
4) Transfers will be approved between the junior highs and to City High.
5) Transfers will be considered permanent except if boundaries are changed.
